On Wednesday, September 17th, OIS had the pleasure of welcoming representatives from the Câmara Municipal de Oeiras to our campus for a special presentation to our Model United Nations (MUN) students. The session introduced the exciting project COP Oeiras Valley, a partnership between the Municipality of Oeiras and the United Nations Association – Portugal.
COP Oeiras Valley – A partnership between the Municipality of Oeiras and the United Nations Association Portugal.
The initiative is designed as a simulation of the UN Conference of the Parties (COP), using the Model UN format, and invites secondary school students from across Oeiras to participate. This year’s edition, to be held in October 2025 at Taguspark, will focus on the theme: “The Role of Energy in Climate.” Students will be debating crucial issues such as renewable energy development, energy poverty and efficiency, and the environmental impact of energy consumption.
The organisers shared impressive highlights from previous editions:
- Over 100 countries and organisations represented.
- Participation from more than 200 students across 12 schools.
- Media coverage by national TV and newspapers.
- A wide range of awards, including Best Delegation, Diplomatic Award, Best Opening Speech, and Innovation/Originality Award.
Our MUN students had the opportunity to engage directly with the representatives, gaining insight into how this project will enrich their skills in diplomacy, international relations, critical thinking, and public speaking. The initiative also reflects OIS’s international outlook and commitment to student leadership.
We look forward to seeing OIS students representing countries and organisations at COP Oeiras Valley 2025, contributing to meaningful debates on one of the most pressing global issues of our time.
