Oeiras International School (OIS) is a non-selective, happy and inclusive international school, in Oeiras, near Lisbon in central Portugal. We believe that being at OIS is an exciting opportunity for both our 90 staff and our 450 students.
OIS is an International Baccalaureate World School. The school is run by parents through their charitable foundation, Oeiras International School Associação SFL, which was founded in 2009 by 30 investors and associates.
We are proud of our reputation for academic excellence and personal growth for all. We serve students from 40 different countries speaking many different languages and reflecting many different cultures. This diversity and our plan to remain small (up to 650 students maximum) makes us a truly international, family-first school.
Outstanding Teachers
For teachers who value the ideals of the IB and teach in a student-centered, collaborative and inquiry-based way, OIS is the ideal place to work. Located in beautiful, natural surrounds, OIS aims to keep class sizes small so each student can get the attention they deserve. OIS is a not-for-profit school and this means we can pay fair salaries and always put students before dividends. Staff turnover is very low, but as we are expanding opportunities are still arising.
At OIS, we believe in using the Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4), which helps us better understand how our individual students learn and the potential they have. This information allows us to tailor the education our children receive to their individual learing styles and also for us to measure our own performance as teachers. We seek to improve our professionalism and effectiveness by keeping up with the latest research-based pedagogical initiatives. We believe that to be the best school we need to have the best teachers, and ongoing professional learning and appraisal is a key part of that.
OIS teachers care about getting to know each student, teaching them values and good habits. We want our students to become leaders in sustainability and to have respect for themselves and others. We want them to be ready for the opportunities an ever-changing world presents. If you share a similar view, then maybe OIS is the school for you.
At OIS you might bump into goats and donkeys, or see children tending to vegetables in our garden, reading a book whilst sitting in a tree or even keeping our bees. This is a truly unique working environment. We are proud to be a family school and so we welcome staff.
