A Sustainable Style Affair: An Afternoon of Fashion, Fun, and Purpose at Oeiras International School
Last Saturday, the Oeiras International School campus transformed into a lively hub of creativity, connection, and conscious living. Our picturesque grounds, in the heart of nature, provided the perfect backdrop for an interactive afternoon celebrating sustainable fashion. The event, designed to educate and inspire a more thoughtful approach to wardrobe choices, brought together students, parents, staff, and local community members for a day that was as meaningful as it was fun.
A Wardrobe Revolution
The day kicked off with a mini clothes swap, inviting participants to trade gently loved garments and give them a second life. It was incredible to witness the joy of rediscovery as attendees found “new-to-you” treasures, proving that style doesn’t have to come at the cost of our planet.
The repair station was a highlight for many, emphasizing the importance of repair over replacement. Participants learned simple sewing techniques to fix worn clothes, adding personal touches and stories to their garments.
The jewellery workshop buzzed with creativity, as attendees crafted unique accessories from recycled and upcycled materials. The workshop not only showcased the beauty of handmade items but also highlighted how sustainable practices can result in stunning, one-of-a-kind creations.
The event also featured a captivating natural dye demonstration showcasing the beauty of creating vibrant colours from natural, eco-friendly sources. Attendees were inspired by a Zero Waste presentation, where practical tips were shared on reducing waste in our daily lives.
A Marketplace of Local Talent
Adding to the vibrant atmosphere was a mini local design market, featuring eco-conscious brands and designers from the community. From ethically crafted clothing to sustainable accessories, the market provided a platform for local talent while encouraging mindful shopping habits. It was a fantastic opportunity to discover how small changes in consumer choices can support a greener future.
The afternoon concluded with a panel session featuring diverse panellists from various backgrounds, who shared their unique perspectives on sustainability, fashion, and mindful living.
