On December 6th and 7th, students from Oeiras International School (OIS) demonstrated their exceptional diplomatic and problem-solving skills at the prestigious St. Julian’s Model United Nations (MUN) conference. This high-profile event brought together over 100 delegates who engaged in rigorous debates across four key committees, each tackling pressing global issues.
Key Highlights from the OIS Delegation
In the General Assembly (GA), OIS delegates discussed topics such as global economic inequality and climate change adaptation. They presented innovative proposals to promote equitable growth and sustainable development, earning recognition for their well-researched and impactful speeches.
In the Security Council (UNSC), the focus was on border security and migration management. Representing key nations, the OIS delegation proposed solutions that balanced sovereignty concerns with global humanitarian obligations, fostering constructive dialogue among peers.
In the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the case of Canada and the Netherlands v. Syrian Arab Republic regarding the Convention against Torture was addressed. The OIS legal team, comprising both judges and advocates, showcased a sophisticated understanding of international law, presenting compelling arguments and contributing to a fair and informed judgment.
In the Human Rights Council (HRC), topics included freedom of speech in the digital age and human rights protection in prisons.
