School Trip to Pico, Azores

Pico Reflection

Our visit to Pico was full of fun and great times. On Thursday, we departed for Pico from Lisbon at about 14h00 and arrived in Pico about 19h00. After dinner, we walked around and finished the night with dessert at Burger King. Friday was a calmer day, where we rested, went shopping for supplies and food at Continente and Pingo Doce (which were around 20-30 minutes away from where we were staying), cooked lunch together, and explored the island before going out for dinner, which was incredible for all of us.

Saturday was the trip’s highlight. We left our rooms at 02h00 to hike Mount Pico, and we reached the summit at around 06h40, which was just in time to watch the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean. The weather was perfect and the warm vapour at the top helped us forget about the cool mountain air. Which allowed some of us to take short naps before we started heading back down, in this case, me. We arrived back at our hotel about 11h40, tired but very proud of our achievement. That night we cooked burgers together, at Daniel’s group accommodation (which had the biggest kitchen), to commemorate our last night as a group. An enjoyable and fun memory was Arthur taking a penalty shot on a local football field we found and scoring it, which drew everyone to go wild. The trip was amazing, despite the lack of sleep many of us got before the hike and the sore legs the day after, the trip was so much fun, full of unforgettable memories.
