A Day to Remember
Year 7 students recently embarked on an exciting Survival Day, a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience life as ancient humans. Held on Thursday, February 13th, the day encouraged students to work collaboratively outside their usual friendship groups, fostering teamwork and problem-solving skills. These experiences also served as inspiration for their upcoming Survival Journal writing project.
Throughout the day, students faced a series of engaging challenges. They created group identities, complete with names, symbols, and chants, before diving into hands-on survival tasks. From constructing shelters and crafting tools and weapons to preparing snacks, designing trade items, and leaving behind legacies, every activity required creativity and resourcefulness. As they explored the forest, even older students reminisced fondly about their own Survival Day experiences, envious of the adventures taking place.
These special days leave a lasting impact. Years from now, students may forget their classroom lessons, but the memories of Survival Day will stay with them. The enthusiasm, energy, and commitment shown by all participants were truly commendable. Special recognition goes to the challenge winners, whose well-constructed shelter, innovative cooking solutions, and expertly crafted bow and arrow demonstrated remarkable skill and ingenuity.
A huge thank you to all Year 7 students for their dedication and enthusiasm and to the staff who made the event possible. And most importantly—everyone survived! Enjoy some of the highlights captured in photos from this unforgettable day.
